School HistoryThe University of Nebraska–Lincoln, often called UNL, but also known as Nebraska or NU, is referred to as the flagship institution of the University of Nebraska system. UNL was founded in 1869 as a land-grant university under the provisions of the Morrill Act. Its main campus is located in Lincoln a few blocks north of the Nebraska State Capitol. Nebraska is an international leader in scholarly research, having been a member of the Association of American Universities since 1909. It is listed as a Carnegie Research I/ Carnegie Research-Extensive institution.
